About Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Honours CGPA Calculation

The National University Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Honours program offers an interdisciplinary exploration of the chemical processes within living organisms. Over four years, students study biophysical and bioorganic chemistry, enzymology, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, biotechnology, cell biology, human nutrition, endocrinology, and virology. The curriculum integrates theoretical principles with practical laboratory sessions each year, preparing students for careers in research, healthcare, and industry. Understanding the official NU grading system is vital for Honours students to accurately compute their semester GPA and overall CGPA. This calculator is tailored for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology students following the NU honours syllabus across all four years.

How This Biochemistry and Molecular Biology CGPA Calculator Works

The calculator converts each selected letter grade into the official NU grade point, multiplies it by the subject credit, and divides the total weighted points by total counted credits.

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology subjects, optional groups, practical papers, compulsory papers, and non-CGPA subjects are loaded from the department data below so the calculation matches the year-wise structure of the program.

Frequently Asked Questions

NU CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) measures overall academic performance across all years of an Honours program. Each subject earns a grade point (0.00–4.00) which is multiplied by its credit hours. The CGPA is the sum of all weighted grade points divided by the total credit hours (128 for Honours).
National University Bangladesh uses a 4.00 grading scale: A+ (80–100%) = 4.00, A (75–79%) = 3.75, A- (70–74%) = 3.50, B+ (65–69%) = 3.25, B (60–64%) = 3.00, B- (55–59%) = 2.75, C+ (50–54%) = 2.50, C (45–49%) = 2.25, D (40–44%) = 2.00, F (below 40%) = 0.00.
The 4-year Honours program requires 128 total credits: First Year 28 credits, Second Year 28 credits, Third Year 32 credits, and Fourth Year 40 credits. Theory subjects carry 4 credits each, practicals carry 2 credits, and the Fourth Year includes a viva-voce (4 credits). Note that some departments may have a different total credit structure (e.g., Botany 136, Economics 120).
No. English (Second Year) is a non-credit compulsory subject. It does not count toward total credits or CGPA, but you must pass it to complete the program. The calculator marks non-CGPA subjects clearly and includes them only in the passed-subject count.
A failed subject (F, below 40%) earns 0.00 grade points. Its credit hours still count in total credits, which lowers your GPA. Improvement rules depend on current National University regulations; consult the latest official examination notices for retake and transcript policies.
Classification is determined by final CGPA: First Class (3.00–4.00), Second Class (2.25–2.99), Third Class (2.00–2.24). A CGPA below 2.00 does not meet the minimum requirement for graduation.
Some departments require choosing optional subject groups. For example, Zoology First Year chooses one group (Chemistry or Biochemistry) and Second Year chooses any two. Physics First and Second Years choose one group (Chemistry or Statistics). The calculator prompts you to select before showing the subject list.
Yes. Enter actual grades for completed years and estimated grades for remaining years. The calculator will project your final CGPA and show what classification you would achieve.
It follows the official NU grading scale and weighted credit formula: Σ(Grade Point × Credit) / Σ(Credit). Verify with your college for any institution-specific variations.
Yes. Higher-credit subjects have a greater impact on CGPA. A 4-credit theory subject counts twice as much as a 2-credit practical. The calculator applies the correct weighted averaging.
Select your department, choose the academic year, pick optional groups if applicable, enter your grades for each subject, and click Calculate. Check "Overall CGPA" to calculate across all years at once.
The program focuses on the chemical and molecular basis of life, covering enzymes, metabolism, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, cell biology, nutrition, endocrinology, and biotechnology. It bridges chemistry and biology to understand biological processes at the molecular level.
Yes, practical training is a core component. Students complete Biochemistry Practical in the first and second years, and a Practical paper in the third and fourth years. These sessions develop laboratory skills in biochemical techniques, molecular analysis and instrumentation.
Graduates can work in pharmaceutical companies, diagnostic laboratories, biotechnology firms, food industries, clinical research, academic institutions, and healthcare sectors. The program also prepares students for postgraduate studies in molecular biology, bioinformatics and medical sciences.
