Physics Honours CGPA Calculator

NU CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) measures overall academic performance across all years of your program. Each subject earns a grade point (0.00–4.00) which is multiplied by its credit hours. The CGPA is the sum of all weighted grade points divided by the total credit hours (128 for Honours, 84 for BA Program, 24 for Degree Pass).

National University Bangladesh uses a 4.00 grading scale: A+ (80–100%) = 4.00, A (75–79%) = 3.75, A- (70–74%) = 3.50, B+ (65–69%) = 3.25, B (60–64%) = 3.00, B- (55–59%) = 2.75, C+ (50–54%) = 2.50, C (45–49%) = 2.25, D (40–44%) = 2.00, F (below 40%) = 0.00.

The 4-year Honours program requires 128 total credits (28 + 28 + 32 + 40). The 3-year BA Program requires 84 credits. The 3-year Degree Pass requires 24 credits. Each department may have slight variations — use the calculator to see the exact distribution for your department.

No. English (Second Year) is a non-credit compulsory subject. It does not count toward total credits or CGPA, but you must pass it to complete the program. The calculator marks non-CGPA subjects clearly and includes them only in the passed-subject count.

A failed subject (F, below 40%) earns 0.00 grade points. Its credit hours still count in total credits, which lowers your GPA. Improvement rules depend on current National University regulations; consult the latest official examination notices for retake and transcript policies.

Classification is determined by final CGPA: First Class (3.00–4.00), Second Class (2.25–2.99), Third Class (2.00–2.24). A CGPA below 2.00 does not meet the minimum requirement for graduation. This applies to all programs (Honours, BA Program, and Degree Pass).

Some departments require choosing optional subject groups. For example, Zoology First Year chooses one group (Chemistry or Biochemistry) and Second Year chooses any two. Physics First and Second Years choose one group (Chemistry or Statistics). The calculator prompts you to select before showing the subject list.

Each practical paper (Physics Practical-I through IV) carries full credit weight and appears as a separate subject with its own marks. The grade you earn in the practical is computed independently and included in your semester GPA and overall CGPA under the official NU grading system.

In the first and second years, Physics students choose between a Chemistry group (Chemistry-I and Chemistry-I Practical in first year; General Chemistry-II and Environmental Chemistry in second year) or a Statistics group (Introduction to Statistics and Statistics Practical-I in first year; Methods of Statistics and Statistics Practical-II in second year).
